Macphie is the UK’s leading, independent, added-value food ingredients manufacturer, and we have been producing premium quality food ingredients and solutions for almost 90 years. The Macphie product range is used by bakers, chefs and food manufacturers across almost every industry worldwide. We’re passionate about corporate social responsibility and sustainability, driving a number of initiatives to help the environment and local communities.

Our innovative product range offers unrivalled choice, covering ambient sweet and savoury bakery mixes and concentrates, icings and fillings, glazes, sweet and savoury sauces, desserts, fruit coulis, dairy cream alternatives, release agents, melts and flavoured butters.

What we do

Macphie operates two manufacturing sites both with BRC Grade AA certification. The Glenbervie site is also certified ISO14001.

To ensure both our bakery and food service products meet the needs of our customers, we monitor global trends to inspire and develop next generation products. Our hands-on approach ensures we have an in-depth understanding of the technical, operational and competitive challenges faced by our customers and provide ongoing support to continually identify areas for development.

In addition to our branded product range we offer customised product development and manufacturing services creating be-spoke, application-specific products that meet your brief accurately. We operate a full pilot plant facility which replicates full-scale production.

Our Team

The Macphie team is made up of more than 300 people working across our two sites located in Glenbervie, near Aberdeen and Tannochside, near Glasgow. We live and breathe innovation, creativity and excellence – and no-one goes further to provide imaginative business solutions for our customers.

We operate three business units – In Home, Out Of Home and On The Go – as well as our International activities, and these are supported by marketing, customer service, development and technical experts, who will work closely with you to understand exactly how to help you gain a competitive advantage in your market.

Our team of expert bakers and chefs have a wealth of food industry experience allowing them to understand customers’ needs, as well as their day-to-day technical and operational challenges. This insight supports our hands-on approach to sharing knowledge and developing solutions, whether in the form of product demonstrations, a new recipe idea or a new packaging format to drive greater production efficiency. Put simply, we work in partnership with our customers for mutual business success.

    Alister Macphie establishes a small retail and later a wholesale bakery business with a staff of 6 people

  • 1954

    Alister's nephew, Stewart Macphie takes over. The business moves into manufacturing -initially bakery and then food ingredients

  • 1973

    The Glenbervie estate becomes the new HQ for Macphie

  • 1975

    Bakery Concentrates are introduced

  • 1985

    Macphie pioneers the use of bag-in-box food technology

  • 1987

    Bakery range launched

  • 1992

    UHT Savoury Sauces range launched

  • 1997

    Stewart's son Alastair takes over as Chief Executive and the business expands

    Macphie's first Crème Brûlée is launched

    Oakwood Foods is acquired to manufacture
    chilled and frozen added-value meal ingredients

    Cake Sensations range launched featuring cake mixes

    Macphie patent RTU
    Crossing Paste

    The use of wood chips

At Macphie, we’re passionate about corporate social responsibility and sustainability, driving a number of initiatives to help the environment and local communities.

In 2015, Macphie became one of the first UK companies to achieve B Corporation certification as acknowledgment of the company’s ongoing commitment to social and environmental ethics, transparency and accountability.
