Commitment to sustainability secures supplier award - Macphie

Macphie was named Pizza Hut Restaurants Sustainable Supplier of the Year last night (9 Sep) for its commitment to the environment and its local communities.

The award was judged by the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) and awarded at Pizza Hut’s annual supplier conference in central London.

National Account Manager Martyn Hamilton and Food Applications Executive David Bittlestone were there to accept the award.

Judges were impressed with Macphie’s forward-thinking mindset and its use of renewable energy in its production processes, also commenting on its work with local schools to develop the future workforce and the work it’s doing to make its packaging more environmentally friendly.

The annual awards recognise suppliers for outstanding performance in support of Pizza Hut’s business. This is the first year Pizza Hut has introduced a sustainability award which aims to celebrate companies demonstrating a commitment to being a responsible business. Other nominees included Britvic, KK Foods, Lakeland Dairies and Beacon Foods.

Commercial Director Warren Wells said, “We’re delighted to win this award and it’s great to see sustainability securing its place on the agenda.

“Every day, our employees are working to produce products used by chefs and bakers around the world. This doesn’t happen in isolation and we recognise the impact our business has on the people and places around us.

“From reviewing our use of plastic to engaging with the future workforce, we take a long-term view to sustainability and it’s great to be recognised for our efforts.”
