New pack sizes to support the nation - Macphie

With the foodservice sector forced into hibernation to prevent the spread of coronavirus, manufacturers like Macphie have had to adapt to survive.

Macphie’s commercial director Warren Wells said: “We’ve adapted the format of some of our best-selling lines so instead of selling in 12.5kilo sacks, we’re packing our bakery mixes into bags half the size which are more manageable for consumers.

“Our Complete Bread Mix is a one-stop-shop powder blend which can be made into baguettes, rolls, loaves, pizza bases and more, all with the addition of water. It’s a great store cupboard essential to have to hand during this nationwide lockdown.

“And with a home-baking boom sweeping the UK, we’re also going out to market with our Scone Mix and our Complete Pancake and Waffle Mix.

“As well as exploring new opportunities, we’re continuing to work hard to get our product out the door, many of which are used in NHS staff and patient meals, nursing homes and other key care providers.

“While we continue to operate under challenging circumstances, it’s been inspiring to see everyone adapt and pull together to ride this out. We continue to engage with all our partners regularly and look forward to supporting each other once normality sets back in.”
