£10,000 Donation to CLAN is the icing on the cake

Christmas came early for north-east cancer charity, CLAN, thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Clan handoverUK's leading independent food ingredients manufacturer, Macphie of Glenbervie. Staff nominated CLAN as their charity of the year for 2009. The year-long fundraising campaign included a sponsored walk, a 90 mile sponsored cycle, raffles, a quiz night and wearing something red to work days. The Macphie bakers baked 900 strawberry tarts and their chefs volunteered their cooking talents for a Dinner Party Experience.

The Macphie fundraising team, Karen Scott, Annette Mills, Gillian Rattray, Brenda Wilson, Phil Annandale and Liz Johnson, presented CLAN Fundraising Manager, Susan Crighton, with a cheque for £10,000. In addition, the company gave in-kind donations of its Crème Brûlée dessert for CLAN’s Christmas Cracker event last month - a donation worth around £2,000.

Susan Crighton said: “We were delighted when Macphie nominated CLAN as their charity of the year and even more delighted when they told us they had raised £10,000 which will go towards furnishing our new Conservatory area.”

All of the money will go towards CLAN’s 123 campaign to build a new cancer support centre. The new centre will include a children’s area as well as an increased number of therapy rooms, counselling rooms and accommodation for clients and their families travelling from across the north-east of Scotland, Orkney and Shetland.

Congratulating the staff, Macphie Chief Executive, Alastair Macphie, said: “We have a strong track record in supporting our local community and nothing gives me greater pleasure than to hand over this money. I’m very proud of our staff for achieving this amazing amount for CLAN.”

He also credited support from other local businesses who kindly donated raffle prizes.
