Food ingredients manufacturer, Macphie, has launched a new Best of British recipes brochure to help bakers tap into British Food Fortnight and boost their sales. Running from 20th September to 5th October and now in its seventh year, British Food Fortnight is the biggest national celebration of the diverse and delicious range of food that Britain produces.

Bakers are invited to run British food promotions during the event, to offer tastings and promotions to highlight new products and to decorate shop windows with bunting and British Food Fortnight posters. For those who take part, championing British Food Fortnight pays dividends. In 2007, retailers reported a 25 per cent increase in foot fall and a 34 per cent increase in sales resulting from involvement in the event.

Macphie group commercial director, Ronnie Leggett, said: “Following the success of team GB at the Olympics there is a real pride in all things British, and British food is firmly back on the map. From Aberdeen butteries to Manchester tarts and Chelsea buns, Britain boasts an array of regionally-distinct baked goods. Our new Best of British recipes include classic ideas with a fresh, modern twist. Consumers are very receptive to local food and the story behind where the product comes from gives it a sense of craft. If bakers use adjectives like “freshly baked”, “seasonal,” or “locally sourced ingredients” around their bakeries, customers will be more willing to trade-up and pay a premium rather than ask the price. Whatever the season we have the perfect recipes to put the “great” back into Britain.”
