5th Avenue Icings
Add a little luxury to your muffins and cakes using 5th Avenue® Icings. These American fudge icings are available in a range of mouth-watering flavours: White, Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Caramel, Strawberry, Lemon and Coffee. They are easy to apply and with a little creativity you can create a multitude of different effects. Available in 12.5kg pails.
Try out some of these ideas to give your cakes a new twist!
Before You Begin
The cakes you'll be decorating must be completely cooled before any icing goes near it, other wise it will melt and run off the surface. When you have finished baking, leave cakes to cool for at least 1 hour.
For a smooth, glossy surface - Dip it
Heat the icing to 45ºC (115ºF) in a bain-marie or a plastic container in a micro-wave. Stir regularly to ensure the heat is evenly distributed. Dip cakes into the icing or spoon it on. Add any decorative sweets, toppings or sprinkles.
For a drizzled effect - Spin In
Melt the icing (as above) and transfer into a piping bag. Cut a narrow tip off the end. Drizzle the icing in a zig-zag or circular pattern over the surface of the cake.
For fluffy, butter-cream toppings - Pipe it
It couldn’t be easier to make butter-creams. In a mixer, beat 300g of 5th Avenue® Icing with 100g softened margarine for 5 minutes to get a smooth, fluffy consistency. Transfer into a piping bag with a plastic nozzle inside. Pipe a spiral from the outer edge to the centre. Finish with sweets, sprinkles or mini marshmallows.
For a peaked “snow” effect - Pallete knife it
Different colours can be made by adding a few drops of food colouring to 5th Avenue® White Icing. Make up butter-cream (as above) to get a smooth, spreadable consistency. Apply onto the cake using a palette knife or spatula. Ideal for filling cakes too.
