Carnival fun raises £3,000 for Myeloma UK - Macphie

This summer, Macphie colleagues came together for a carnival-themed summer BBQ, raising £3,000 for Myeloma UK.

Open to all employees and their families, the event featured live music and entertainment inspired by The Greatest Showman as well as an array of on-trend food dished up by Macphie’s team of chefs and bakers. However the highlight was the chance to dunk members of our senior management team in return for a donation towards our £20,000 fundraising target for Myeloma UK.

The guestlist of 350 were challenged to raise £200 on the day to see chief executive Ed Widdowson face the forfeit of sitting under the “Wee(t) Mac” dunk tank. As an added fundraising incentive, employees were told that if they reached £1,000, Ed’s uncle and the company’s former chairman Alastair Macphie would face a similar fate.

Without hesitation, the team rallied behind the cause and the £200 starting point was soon surpassed and Ed and Alastair faced their challenge.

Myeloma UK partnership

Our Head of Marketing and Communications, Anna Massie, has played a central part in shaping our partnership with Myeloma UK, drawing on her own experience of living with the condition.

Anna was diagnosed with multiple myeloma last year at the age of 42, an incurable blood cancer that changed her life overnight.

Working closely with Myeloma UK, we aim to raise awareness of multiple myeloma and encourage fundraising among our colleagues, while supporting the vital research and services the charity provides for people living with the condition.

The partnership was announced during Myeloma Awareness Week in June and coincides with Anna’s birthday, a milestone made even more meaningful following a challenging year of treatment and recovery. To find out more click here.
