A royal recipe for celebration - Macphie

Roll out the bunting and look out your best china; the Queen is turning 90 which calls for a national celebration!

Our Royal Highness has a jam-packed weekend ahead but if your invite to this year’s hottest garden party got lost in the post, then not to worry. The Big Lunch event takes place on Sunday 12th June and encourages you to sit down to lunch with your neighbours – so why not gather together and get into the spirit of things with some indulgent British classics? Old favourites including strawberry tarts, Victoria sponge and lemon drizzle cake are the perfect fit for any royal celebration.

The Queen herself kicked-off celebrations with an orange drizzle cake with orange curd and buttercream, carefully crafted by Nadiya Hussain, the latest winner of The Great British Bake Off. However, we reckon that traditional treats from your local baker are fit for a king so whether you’re rejoicing from the Palace or picnicking in the park, make the most of this momentous occasion with some of Britain’s bakery best bits!
