Macphie is donating technology equipment worth over £8,000 to Mearns Academy in Laurencekirk.
The 25 iPad Pros and keyboards will be used by pupils in classes which help them further develop skills for life, learning and work.
The donation is to further benefit Mearns Academy’s involvement with Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) programme. DYW is a Scottish Government funded initiative to forge relationships between schools and the business environment.
Pupils will use the new equipment to learn about personal finance, health and wellbeing. They will improve their employability skills, enhance their CVs and learn about the world of work.
Chairman Alastair Macphie said: “We are delighted to provide Mearns Academy with this important IT resource.
“Learning transferable skills such as personal finance, budget planning and job searching will prove invaluable to the young people when they join the world of work.
“Our partnership with the school is helping the future workforce see the types of career opportunities that are available in the food and drink industry.”
Mearns Academy Principal Teacher of Achievement Katherine Nepute said: “We are delighted Macphie is donating this equipment which will be used exclusively for pupils involved in the Developing the Young Workforce classes.”
Macphie’s engagement with schools is part of its connection with local communities and plays an important part in informing the next generation about the world of work.
The two-way support has covered career events, induction to industry days as well as working with specific departments on real-life work scenarios.
As the UK food and drink industry continues to grow, it’s expected that 140,000 recruits will be required by 2024 to feed an estimated population of 70million people.
