As a certified B Corp, we’re delighted to support sustainably-minded organisations and have been sponsoring the Sustainability Initiative of the Year award category since it was created in 2021.

The award aims to highlight businesses and initiatives making the sector a more sustainable one. Green energy initiatives, waste reduction, recycling and sustainable sourcing are just some of the things previous finalists have been praised for.

Previous winners

Last year’s winner was Wildfarmed for their mission to change bakery for the better by offering a route to market for crops grown in systems that prioritise soil health using regenerative farming methods without pesticides.

The firm is now working in collaboration with Marks and Spencer, who are using the flour made from fully traceable, regeneratively farmed wheat to create the M&S X Wildfarmed range, which includes white, sliced wheat & rye and fruit and treacle bread, and more recently its sourdough range. Furthermore, they have successfully got hundreds of artisan bakers on board with their ambitions.

2023 winners – Wildfarmed

2022 winners – Earth & Wheat

2021 winners – Muntons

There are multiple reasons to enter the Baking Industry Awards, including to receive an industry-recognised seal of approval, to generate positive publicity, and also to secure new opportunities. James Eid, founder of the 2022 winner Earth & Wheat said “It has given us more credibility amongst bakeries and, off the back of it, we have had suppliers and partners, who were looking to reduce their food waste, reach out to us and become partners,”.

Furthermore, winners are also invited to participate in judging opportunities for the awards.
