Macphie Chairman shares renewable energy insight - Macphie

Last month Macphie Chairman Alastair Macphie shared his insight on low carbon energy opportunities with delegates at the All-Energy Exhibition and Conference.

Taking place on 5-6th May 2016 in Glasgow, the show included a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency in the food and drink sector for the first time; looking at the role the industry can have on renewable energy and means of ensuring cost savings and efficiencies.

Alastair shared his experience on the value of low carbon opportunities for food and drink businesses, discussing Macphie’s recent developments in renewable energy.

TurbineWe were the first manufacturer to produce food ingredients using green energy created from locally sourced wood chips. Our multi-million pound investment reduces our CO2 emissions by 2,100 tonnes a year. In 2014 we also built two wind turbines on the Glenbervie Estate to provide energy for our main manufacturing site, underlining our continuing commitment to environmental sustainability.

Alastair discussed, “The benefits of embracing renewable energy have been incredible. Not only has this contributed to our BCorp certification, confirming our position as a socially responsible business, but financially we have a combined heat and power saving of around £150,000 per annum.”

Alastair was joined by speakers from Zero Waste Scotland, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, Bacardi, Scotch Whisky Association and Interface. Presentations from throughout the day can be found here.
