Sustainability manager appointed - Macphie

As the company celebrates B Corp Month, Macphie welcomes its new sustainability manager Kirsty Allan to drive forward its environmental agenda.

Kirsty has joined Macphie from energy, digital and industrial transformation specialists Bouygues Energies & Services where she’s been working for the last four years.

In this newly created position, Kirsty will oversee Macphie’s growing environmental commitments and lead the company’s efforts to achieve net zero carbon emissions ahead of government targets.

Kirsty’s arrival will help the business drive “sustainable, profitable growth” says chairman Alastair Macphie.

“We have ambitious growth plans and it’s vital that sustainability is built into everything we do. From new products to new processes, Kirsty will be responsible for making sure that any future transformations are sustainable.

“As a certified B Corp, we are already striving towards the highest social and environmental standards. However we must continue to build on this momentum and continually find new and better ways of working for the people and places around us.

“Kirsty brings with her a true passion for sustainability and a sense of enthusiasm that is already seeing her drive real change within the business.”

Kirsty Allan said: “I’m thrilled to be part of a business in which sustainability is at its heart. We are making significant progress as we formalise our plans and work hard to bring about measurable changes in how we operate.”

Hitting the round running, Kirsty joined a panel of speakers on British Baker’s first sustainability webinar. Alongside British Baker editor Amy North and Too Good to Go’s UK managing director Paschalis Loucaides, Kirsty shares practical and actionable advice to help craft bakers make sustainable changes while recovering from the impacts of the pandemic. Topics include food waste, energy consumption, packaging, logistics and carbon emissions. The webinar is now available to view on the British Baker website.

Macphie has been a certified B Corp since 2015, meaning it works to the highest standard of environmental and social performance. This month marks #BCorpMonth – a month-long celebration of the B Corp business community and all it is helping to achieve.
