Wildfarmed crowned champions of Sustainability Initiative of the Year

Last night, Wildfarmed were awarded with Sustainability of the Year for 2023 at the Bakery Industry Awards.

The glamorous awards night returned to the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London for an incredible celebration, with hundreds of professionals from across the industry present for a standout night of entertainment, celebration and networking.

Macphie has been sponsoring the Sustainability Initiative of the Year award category since it was created in 2021. As a certified B Corp, we were delighted to support sustainably minded organisations.

The award aims to highlight businesses and initiatives making the sector a more sustainable one. Green energy initiatives, waste reduction, recycling and sustainable sourcing are just some of the things previous finalists have been praised for.

Wildfarmed, were awarded with Sustainability Initiative of the Year for their mission to change bakery for the better by offering a route to market for crops grown in systems that prioritise soil health using regenerative farming methods without pesticides.

The firm is now working in collaboration with Marks and Spencer, who are using the flour made from fully traceable, regeneratively farmed wheat to create the M&S X Wildfarmed range, which includes white, sliced wheat & rye and fruit and treacle bread, and more recently its sourdough range. Furthermore, they have successfully got hundreds of artisan bakers on board with their ambitions.

Congratulations must also go to the other finalists – Oggs and Toast Ale. Both businesses show real enthusiasm and commitment to being sustainable, which is commendable.
